About Shinfudoki

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Shinfudoki is a bilingual editorial media bringing the spirit, inspiration and creativity of Japan to creators around the world, especially in Europe.

Its name means “new fudoki”. The fudoki were records of the land, products and lore of Japan’s provinces, compiled in the eighth century. In the same spirit, we set down new records of Japanese craft and creativity, and of the places and ideas behind them.

Our approach

Rather than chasing the news, we publish stories that convey the context behind Japanese creativity — its materials, its ideas and the words of its makers — carefully edited and grounded in reliable facts.

Our Japanese and English editions are not literal translations of one another; each is edited for its own readers.

What we cover

Architecture, art, fashion, travel, materials and making. We follow Japanese creativity across disciplines.

Who we are

Shinfudoki is run as an independent project (operator details to be added).
