What we collect and why

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address, together with the language (Japanese or English) and URL of the page you subscribed from. We use the language to choose which edition to send you. We use this information only to send the newsletter and never sell it to third parties.

We use beehiiv (United States) to send the newsletter. After you subscribe, we send a confirmation email, and your subscription is complete once you click the link in it (double opt-in). We may use aggregate statistics, such as open rates, to improve the newsletter.

Spam protection

The subscription form uses Cloudflare Turnstile (Cloudflare, Inc., United States) to prevent automated sign-ups. When you interact with the form, information about your browser is sent to Cloudflare.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to improve the site. It does not use cookies and does not collect information that identifies you personally.

Embedded content

Articles may include embedded content from YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode), Vimeo and Instagram. When embedded content is displayed, information about your browser is sent to these services. Please refer to their privacy policies.

Legal basis and retention

We process your email address on the basis of your consent and keep it until you unsubscribe.

International transfers

The services above are provided by companies in the United States and elsewhere, so your information may be processed outside Japan and the European Economic Area (EEA).
